Textile Art Exhibition

Fall party is well known celebration to Latvians and Lithuanians. At the beginning of the long dark autumn evenings, our ancestors got together and did various household works, discussed life, told stories, lingered on memories and at the same time created various fine things that decorated the house, clothes and left evidence of their fine craft skills for future generations.

We try to convey something of these feelings to the audience in Kedainai Janina Monkute-Marks Art Museum.

In this exhibition, our textile stories are about different themes and individual feelings, which were vivid and intrusive enough to be depicted in different fiber art techniques.

Textile can be heavy and thick, you can sink into its fluff and fringes as enjoying a deep sleep, but you can also dream, watching transparent and airy, mirage-like images.

And vice versa – textiles can take away from dreaming, showing life in its diversity – through humor, jokes, also tragic loneliness, sorrow and new self-awareness, inspiring and giving hope.

Latvian textile artists of all generations and art students  participate in the exhibition – a total of 43 authors with 58 artworks.

Let’s celebrate the arrival of autumn together!
